Carnation needs us – we need YOU!!
September 26, 2012
We received the saddest plea in our inbox this week. From the shelter volunteer:
The first words I heard about Carnation (just a puppy at 7 months old, 33 pounds) were: “We can’t euthanize her. She is sitting in that cage playing with her toys!!!” What a doll this little brindle girl is! Sweet, loving with other dogs, just an angel who, unfortunately, will require a visit to an orthopedic vet to find out about her limp on the rear leg. FHO surgery is a possibility for her. But, we can raise funds if there is a rescue who will save her life. If medical staff is willing, we must support them!!!
Then, from today’s evaluation:
…the best I could do was take Carnation and walk her through [the treatment] room, with other dogs barking and growling at her. She did not react other than to go up, sniff, and wag her tail — and, in fact, backed away from a momma terrier with pups who was making it know that she was not wanted in that area! I asked a couple of the ACT’s who have spent time in medical and, without hesitation, everyone agreed that Carnation is sweet, polite, and non-reactive. They even said she was quiet in her cage — though I’m sure once healthy she will be romping about non-stop.
We really, really, REALLY want to help this sweetheart! She looks so much like Fiona, it’s just eating us up inside – her deadline is FRIDAY, SEPT 28!! But we have NO ROOM. None. We’ve got people willing to help us raise the money for the possible leg surgery and physical therapy, but she needs a place to GO, i.e., a FOSTER HOME.
Please, San Diego, we really, really need your help! Is there anyone who would be willing to open their heart and their home to this little angel? We will provide a crate, food, and cover all vet expenses. She just needs a place to stay either until space opens up elsewhere or until she’s adopted, whichever comes first.
There have been NO OTHER RESCUES inquiring about this sweet girl, and she deserves a chance at a life! We NEED to save the breed ambassadors so they can go on to change the negative opinion of others about this remarkable breed. This girl sounds like an EXCELLENT ambassadog!!
If you can help, please contact Kelly at pugglesnpitties@gmail.com. Time is of the essence, please contact us right away!!
Thank you!!

Please help us help Bentley!!
April 29, 2012
We got a call from our vet late last week…Bentley, a 3-yr old puggle, was brought in with a broken leg. The owner didn’t have money to pay for the surgery and the owner was going to have him euthanized if they couldn’t find anyone to take him on and get him the care he needed.
Well, we can’t imagine putting down a 3 yr old dog for a broken leg, so we agreed to help. But now we need help helping little Bentley!!
Bentley needs to have his leg plated. There is some question as to whether this is an old injury that wasn’t properly treated the first time or whether it’s completely new. The girl who brought him in last week said she got him off of Craig’s List just a few days before but apparently he had been to this vet with his prior owner because he was in their system and they do have a record of him breaking this leg previously. At that time it was splinted and he was put on crate rest. Now he needs the plate to make sure the repair holds.
Here’s the estimate from Animal Medical Center for the repair (click image to enlarge):
We’ve created a Chip-In for Bentley’s surgery and hope to have the money raised by Friday the 4th so we can schedule the surgery right away. The vet wanted to do the surgery last Friday or this Monday but we had to put the brakes on to try and raise the funds.

Please share this post and the Chip-In link! If everyone can donate just $1 or $5, we can reach his goal in no time at all. This poor little nugget needs to get better soon…can you please help??
THANK YOU!!

Brooke Needs Help!
July 12, 2011
We just received an absolutely heartbreaking email from a military wife (well, ex military wife) who needs to rehome her beloved puggle, Brooke. In order to help her, we need a foster home in the San Diego area. Please contact us at mdgrrrl@msn.com if you can open your home and your heart to this little beauty.
Brooke is 4 yrs old, UTD on shots, spayed, housetrained, good with kids and cats. Used to living a very active lifestyle – regular walks and roller-blading excursions with her mama, but has had to move into an apartment through no fault of her own and has become very depressed.
We really really want to help this sweet girl, and her mom. Please consider being a temporary home for her during this difficult transition.
Thank you!
